Sri Lanka - Famous for its Jewels
Formerly known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka is a small island located to the southeast of India with very distinct and interesting geological origins,
The Island is known for its massive abundance of gemstones in a very small geographic area and is especially known for their blue sapphires. For hundreds of years miners have scoured Sri Lanka's riverbeds in search of gemstones and this discovery is testiment to the fact that the area still contains significant gems.
