We had the pleasure of seeing these gems recently and was blown away by how beautiful they are. With a bright pinkish red colour, they are found alongside rubies and sapphires in Myanmar, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Spinels are often assumed to be other gemstones, such as rubies and sapphires. However, they can be distinguished from other gems by their octahedral crystal structure and single refraction. Additionally, spinel has a lower Mohs hardness than ruby and sapphire.
They will make such pretty jewellery.
