The turquoise has a long history which has played a major role in the popularity of the gem.

The mineral turquoise is formed by a chmical reaction which occurs when water containing specific minerals such as copper and aluminium leak through a rock. It forms in veins, which later then turn into a clump of turquoise.
One of the earliest known turquoise producing regions is Persia, these stones mostly come in their pure, robin's egg blue colour. Historians believe the stone has been mined for more than 2,000 years. Sarabit el-Khadim and Wadi Maghareh are believed to be the oldest known mines in the region.
