Graff Unveils World's Largest D Flawless Heart-Shaped Diamond

02.11.16

Graff presents the Graff Venus, a 118.78 carat D Flawless heart shape diamond in London.
Not new to breaking records in the diamond world, Graff say it is the world's largest heart shape stone.

The colour D and Flawless clarity has us dreaming about the beauty this gem must behold. Coming to the market as a Type IIa means that it is extra special and devoid of impurities, these make up about 2% of all natural diamonds.

Graded as an excellent polish, excellent symmetry and no fluorescence, a lot of credit has to go out to the cutters who took a magnificent 357 carat rough diamond discovered in 2015 at the Letseng mine in Lesotho and carved out a spectacular heart shape. The risk and responsibility factor must have been intense. The process from discovery to completion took 18 months.
It's not news to most that Graff have presented some truly amazing diamonds to the world.

It's difficult to compare the Venus to anything as it's so rare.

A heart shape diamond must be cut to perfection. Facets and symmetry are very important to ensure exquisite sparkle.
Graff diamonds say "The Exceptional size of the heart required the development of special tools and new technologies. The process was incredibly risky and tense."

The Venus was named after the Roman goddess who encompasses love, beauty, sex, fertility, prosperity, victory and desire. In Roman mythology, she was the mother of the Roman people through her son, Aeneas, who survived the fall of Troy and fled to Italy.

Talk about an appropriate name for a large heart.
