Diamonds have been a major source of prosperity for Botswana, helping to provide stability in the economy. However it may be time for the government to look at alternatives as experts predict that diamonds in Botswana as with many other places will not be forever.
With the excitement that came from the discovery of the 1,111 carat diamond a couple of weeks ago came a clear sense that the red soil of Botswana will not produce amazing gems for much longer. The country's mines minister says the government now wants to make Botswana's people its chief export commodity, by investing in mining know how which is also exportable.
